Imagine a crop that has global appeal, drives an economy, is impenetrable by disease and is ethically and sustainably produced. This is not some pipe dream or fantasy. This is the future of coffee- the third most traded commodity in the world.
You know that your cup of coffee is essential to starting your day; it is your fuel, so to speak. The cultivation and production of coffee also fuels many agricultural sectors in many developing countries such as Jamaica. So the question is-how do we make sure that these countries can continue to produce their star crop and supply the demand of countries the world over? How do we make sure that coffee is here to stay? The answer is a multi-faceted one. However, the clear answer is to change the game completely and coffee producers around the world have begun to do just that.
Coffee now commands the same amount of respect as other luxury food items and with hundreds of thousands of skilled professionals delving deeper into this industry, its notoriety will only increase. These coffee pioneers have begun to develop new and exciting ways to improve on, refine and generally ‘bling out’ this brew of the masses, taking it from everyday fuel to affordable luxury. One of the major innovations to that end is the meticulous process of micro-roasting. Coffee producers have been using this methodology, among others, to take their coffee to another level. The result has been an overwhelming response from the consumer: the hip, savvy, sophisticated coffee sipper who can tell an Arabica from a Robusta, and a complete paradigm shift of the industry towards a new kind of creature: specialty coffee.
J.A Island Roasters has decided to go against the masses and supply a premium product catering to the specialty coffee niche market, True Blue Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee. We wanted to introduce Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee, reputedly some of the best quality beans in the world, to this collective of highly trained palettes.
True Blue is 100% Jamaica Blue mountain Arabica beans lovingly cultivated high in our country’s national treasures, the Blue Mountain range. The beans come from a single family-owned farm and processed and roasted locally. No batch is over 150 lbs and it is only roasted to order so that it is always fresh for our clients. The specialty coffee industry is our generation’s answer to the waves that have come before it. It is no longer just concerned with the current mass market, but with its longevity and its sustainable future. The industry today is smart, conscious, creative and progressive. Coffee is the future, but what kind of future is it? Coffee experts and agricultural scientists have been weighing in on how to keep this multi-billion dollar industry running. They are coming up with some pretty interesting answers…
